Gender Barabar, the movement, will be realised with involvement of like-minded organisations. Speaking about the campaign, Anand Madhab, National Head of Jagran Pehel, said, "We are aiming at sensitising people on the issue of girl child, especially in relevance to the declining sex ratio figures that our country is witnessing. I look forward to a larger participation by people so as to make this entire effort worthwhile."
The initiative aims to create a public awareness on the issue and sensitise people towards the cause, using a silent yet an effective means of communication.
Capturing different aspects of being a girl child through the eyes of a lens and disseminating the same to a larger audience is the basic concept of this contest. The participants can send entries in certain sub themes like birth, adolescence, adulthood, womanhood, old age etc.
The winner of the contest will take home a cash prize of Rs 51,000, while the runner-up and the second runner-up will win Rs 31,000 and 21,000 respectively.
